Scholarships & Awards
We fundraise throughout the year to support our Education Trust Fund. The fund provides annual awards to students at each of the four high schools on the Saanich Peninsula in School District #63.
In addition, our Club funds endowments and trusts that provide
annual awards and scholarships at both the University of Victoria and Camosun College. These awards are directed to students in a wide range of study areas, from History to Engineering Technology and from Computer Science to a Foundation in the Trades
Our awards are intended to recognize not only academic achievement, but also passion for the career of choice, teamwork and respect for teachers and fellow students.
High School Graduation 2026 Scholarship Awards
CFUW Saanich Peninsula offers annual scholarships at four high schools in School District #63. In 2026 8 scholarships were awarded. For information and applications, please contact the scholarship office at your high school.
Recipient – Nuala Van Straubenzee
Nuala will study Humanities in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto. She hopes to continue developing the knowledge and skills needed to contribute meaningfully to the community.
Recipient – Yasmin Alkour
Yasmin hopes to pursue General Engineering at the University of Victoria through the Camosun College
transfer Program. She is attracted to the kind of work that builds and moves things forward.
Recipient – Kennedy Brown
Kennedy will begin studying at Camosun College in the fall to begin studies towards becoming a Registered Nurse.
Recipient – Loren Guimmayen
Loren Guimmayen will attend the University of Victoria this fall to study science leading to her goal of becoming a Dentist.
Recipient – Darian Barr
Darian will attend the Registered Nursing program at the University of British Columbia Okanagan and hopes to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Recipient – Chloe McConnell
Chloe will begins her journey at Camosun College with a program that will help her reach the goal of becoming a Pediatric Occupational Therapist.
Recipient – Ruby Christie
Ruby wants to have a career in Veterinary Medicine and will begin with the Veterinary Technician Program at the Sprott Shaw College.
Recipient – Ava Verscheure
Ava plans to take Digital Production at Camosun College this fall with a view to exploring a career in film production and screen writing.
Post Secondary 2026 and 2025 Awards
- The Audrey and Carl Mawby CFUW Saanich Peninsula Award for one or more awards to women undergraduate students studying Canadian or British history in the Department of History.
- The Myrna Holden CFUW Saanich Peninsula Award for a woman working toward a degree in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FECS). Click here to learn more.
- CFUW Saanich Peninsula Engineering Technology Award for one student identifying as a woman who is enrolled in the second year of any Engineering Technology Program and who has demonstrated a passion for the career of an Engineering Technologist and is dedicated and supportive of her peers.
- CFUW Saanich Peninsula First Nations Woman Award for a First Nations woman who has a track record of a satisfactory academic performance, registered in the final year of a degree, university-transfer or professional studies program with a goal of achieving a university degree. Preference will be given to a woman of the W’SANEC’ Nation.
- CFUW Saanich Peninsula Women in Trades Foundation Award to benefit one student identifying as a woman who has completed one of the Trades Foundation Programs offered at Camosun. The student will have demonstrated teamwork, respect and safety in class.

Vivian Meneley-Brulot Humanities, Fourth year Major: History

Emily Swartz, Humanities, Third year; Major: History was this year’s recipient.
“I would like to express my gratitude for this generosity and support of my studies. I am grateful to have been selected as a recipient of this scholarship. I chose the University of Victoria because they had both the programs I aspire to learn and it is a beautiful campus. I would like to explore British history and World War history. To become a curator. I am pursuing courses in multiple subject areas, to broaden my knowledge and understanding.”
Myrna Holden 2025 CFUW Saanich Peninsula Award
Nicole Leitao, was this year’s recipient.
“Nicole is the inaugural recipient of this award. She is an outstanding student who graduated with a 98% average. She is passionate about her studies in Mechanical Engineering, one of the areas in UVIC’s Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science.“
2025 CFUW Saanich Peninsula Women in Trades Foundation Award
Edith Gruber, was this year’s recipient.
““Edith was the kind of student who didn’t leave the classroom without fully understanding every detail of what was studied that day. She asked the kinds of questions many students want to ask, but for one reason or another, are reluctant to. She wasn’t satisfied with anything less than a perfect understanding of the theory, practical competencies, and electrical installations. Her second-to-none note-taking skills undoubtedly contributed to her overall average of 97%. I wouldn’t hesitate to make Edith a member of my electrical crew—and neither should anyone else.”
2026 CFUW Saanich Peninsula Engineering Technology Award
Amanda Curi Fernandes, an international student from Brazil. Amanda is in the 2nd year of the Mechanical Engineering program and will graduate in September. Her goal after graduation is to become an engineering designer., was this year’s recipient.

2025 CFUW Saanich Peninsula First Nations Woman Award
Andrea Sam, from the Snuneymuxw First Nation of Nanaimo, gave a heartfelt speech at the end of the ceremony. She expressed her thankfulness to all her supporters and her sadness to be leaving Camosun.

One-Time Awards
Occasionally CFUW Saanich Peninsula provides one-time awards at the request and/or donation of a member or a member’s family. In 2025, the Education Trust Fund received an anonymous donation of approximately $3,000 for 3 Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each in the 2026 International Baccalaureate Program at Parkland Secondary.

Natalie Bukovec – Parkland Secondary
International Baccalaureate Program Scholarship in Leadership
At the University of British Columbia this fall, Natalie will take Pre-biomedical Engineering as she wants to specialize in Biomedical Engineering. She hopes to work in medical imaging, prosthetics or joint replacements that will ultimately help improve the lives of others.
Lousie Hogan – Parkland Secondary
International Baccalaureate Program Scholarship in Academics
Louise will enter the Engineering Program at the University of British Columbia September and as a mult-lingual student has tentative plans on to pursue a Masters Degree in Germany. She has been an outstanding student interms of academic achievement, athleticism and all-round leadership in her community.
Ava Morton – Parkland Secondary
International Baccalaureate Program Scholarship for Community Service
Ava will attend the University of Victoria this fall to study for a Bachelor of Commerce degree. She has already completed University-level courses at Camosun College. Beyond academics, Ava has dedicated significant time to volunteering with multiple local organizationa and giving back to her community.
In 2021, after the death of long time CFUW Saaich Peninsula member Margaret Little, the Club received a memorial donation and some of Margaret’s artwork.
Margaret Little (1930–2020) was a British Columbia-based artist known for her creative, multi-medium work, settling in Sidney BC, in 2002. Her artistic practice focused on personal expression, utilizing various forms to communicate, heal, and create beauty, while also engaging in environmental activism and community support.
With the donation and the sale of the art, plus an infusion to top-up the amount, we offered a one-time $1,000 scholarship in Margaret’s name at the University of Victoria in the Fine Arts program.
Toni Jones
Tori was the recipient for her work organizing the “(Un)Expected” an exhibit held at the ArtSea Arts Council Gallery inn Sidney.
Community Gifts and Projects
Periodically CFUW Saanich Peninsula raises funds to target important community work. Recent examples include:
Teen Education and Motherhood (T.E.A.M.)
The centre, in partnership with School District 63, provides licensed care for infants and toddlers, serving 12 children under the age of three. Preschool/Group Care for up to 18 three- to five-year-olds for young parents completing their education. The program includes snacks and lunch. Space not filled by students are available to parents in the community.
Professional Development Fund in support of upgrading the skill set of Licensed Practical Nurses to address the current lack of expertise in several health care specialities.
